We are really excited to be starting a musculoskeletal (MSK) clinic at Castle Quay Medical Practice in addition to our existing clinics at Health Plus Surgery.

We are both Musculoskeletal Specialists. Adam is a Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine and Dave is a GP with a Specialist Interest including a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine. We have both also undergone extensive training in MSK ultrasound, for diagnosis and ultrasound guided injections.

Don’t let the term Sports Medicine mislead you – we don’t just treat athletes, we treat all MSK conditions, regardless of age and ability.

Ultrasound is incredibly useful and accurate at helping diagnosis, and as accurate as MRI for many MSK conditions. If we do need an MRI or CT scan, we also have referral rights for both private and public patients at the hospital. Furthermore, we have excellent working relationships with our hospital Radiology and Orthopaedic Consultants.

We work closely with physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and podiatrists – both at the hospital and privately.

We offer ultrasound guided injections where appropriate. Steroids can be helpful for many conditions to settle symptoms. However, latest research is showing some negative effects, leading to use of newer treatment options. Hyaluronic acid can be used for osteoarthritis and tendon injuries with a better safety profile. Plasma rich protein (PRP) can also be very effective for osteoarthritis and tendon injuries. Some studies have shown it actually can improve some osteoarthritis changes.

We also offer focal shockwave, which again is very effective for tendon injuries, and well tolerated with no needles! We can precisely target the area of damage with ultrasound, then focal shockwave uses high energy sound waves to the area. This can have a regenerative and pain modulating effect.
